Our surgeons at Thrive Reconstructive Surgery collaborate closely with several local wound care physicians and wound care outpatient facilities. We tailor our surgical intervention to each specific non-healing wound with complete comprehension of all other tactics that have been tried and exhausted.

Our surgeon’s open communication with referring physicians during a patient’s healing journey allows our efforts to optimize healing success.

How do Non-Healing Wounds occur?

A wound is considered “non-healing” when all other interventions (examples: wound care, medication prescriptions, hyperbaric chambers, etc.) have been exhausted. Non-healing wounds could be a result of several circumstances. Some examples include poor circulation, malnutrition, poor wound care, nicotine usage, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, surgical hardware exposure, and soft tissue defects. Other non-healing wounds are the results of pressure-related injuries, a previous surgical, or a post-surgical complication.

When is surgery a viable option to consider?

Non-healing wounds are always a candidate for surgical intervention. It is the steps before surgery that determine the approach and success of healing.

The first step towards healing a patient’s wound would be an in-depth consultation where our surgeons and clinical team provide you with the tools to prepare for the stages of surgical intervention.

Our clinical team will review your complete medical history to make adjustments such as nicotine cessation, obtaining optimal glucose control, and when necessary, a course of antibiotics may be prescribed.
